The National Weather Service has announced a Flood Watch is in effect from late Tuesday through late Saturday morning . Intense rainfall is expected in Sonoma County with the first Atmospheric River of the season.
- Additional 1-3 inches in the valleys through Friday
- Additional 3-5 inches in the mountains through Friday
- Large rivers are quickly rising, but still not expected to flood.
- Significant flooding of smaller creeks and streams as well as flood prone roads and urban areas
The risk of catastrophic floods exists every year and heavy downpours often lead to dangerous flooding conditions. Wildfires add another layer of risk during the rainy season because dangerous landslides and debris flows can rush down fire-scarred hillsides. Knowing how to prepare for a flood as well what to do during a flood can be lifesaving.
