Flooding in Sonoma County

Alerts, Warnings and Orders

The National Weather Service has announced a Flood Watch is in effect from late Tuesday through late Friday night. Intense rainfall is expected in Sonoma County with the first Atmospheric River of the season.

  • Rainfall totals from Wednesday and Thursday projected from 3-7 inches in the valleys to 6-10 inches in the higher elevations.
  • Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks.
  • Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.
  • Low-water crossings may be flooded.

The risk of catastrophic floods exists every year and heavy downpours often lead to dangerous flooding conditions. Wildfires add another layer of risk during the rainy season because dangerous landslides and debris flows can rush down fire-scarred hillsides. Knowing how to prepare for a flood as well what to do during a flood can be lifesaving.
